No two domestic violence survivors will have the same story. Each survivor is unique. However, society tends to lump the idea of abuse victims into one mass category. This makes it far more challenging for many survivors to find the help and support they need to heal and rebuild their lives.
A Safe Place is a 24 hour hotline in New Hampshire. Seeking to address the stigma of abuse victims, they have created a list of survivor culture groups that tend to have the most difficulty finding support and assistance. For each cultural group, they address common misconceptions as well as challenges this particular group of people will face in the after-math of an assault and/or abusive relationship.
There are ten cultural groups on this particular list, including: male survivors, gay and lesbian survivors, transgender survivors, immigrant survivors, and religious survivors.
