Ann, thank you for sharing this letter to your son with all of us. It was deeply encouraging as I thought about the godly men in my own life -the ones who have been faithful to protect and cherish me- and the precious little boys in my life who will be men within a blink of the eye. It brought me to tears as I thought about the young Christian man I nearly married, who failed to understand that real manhood does not pressure or dishonor. It brought me to tears as I thought about the women and girls I’ve met -and the ones I’ve only read about- who have suffered at the hands of abusive men and received neither support nor protection from the authority figures who ought to have been the first to say, “We must end this.” And my tears became joyful as you reminded me of the deep, deep love God has for the daughters He has graciously purchased with the blood of His Son. It is true, as you noted, that the peace we have in Christ compels us to act against injustice.
