Half the Sky reports:

South Africa was the fifth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, but still suffers from a horrific practice known as “corrective rape” — the rape of lesbians and gay men to “cure” them of their sexual orientation. One such victim was Noxolo Nogwaza, a 24-year-old who was raped, her body mutilated and her eyes pulled from their sockets.

Human Rights Watch is one organization working to raise awareness of this horrific crime.
